Robert McGunnigle - Managing Director

Robert McGunnigleBob is a Managing Director at Summer Street Advisors and leads teams that provide due diligence, underwriting and valuation advisory services. He joined Summer Street Advisors from GE Capital Real Estate where he was the Managing Director, Head of US Underwriting responsible for all due diligence and underwriting matters including credit and market risk assessment, third party management, KYC, structuring, pricing and valuations across both US structured and CMBS lending domestic platforms. Before joining GE he was a US Naval officer in the Civil Engineering Corps responsible for renovation, design, and construction of military facilities.

Bob earned a BS in Systems Engineering from the United States Naval Academy and a MBA from the Robert H Smith school of business at the University of Maryland.

Dan Brook - Director

Dan Brook is a Director at Summer Street Advisors (SSA), responsible for underwriting and analytics.  He brings over 20 years of senior asset-risk management experience to the SSA team. 

Dan has over 15 years of commercial real estate experience, much of which was developed at GE Capital Real Estate where he served in a variety of roles, including Asset Manager, Sr. Relationship Manager, Growth Leader, and Preferred Equity Product Leader.  During his tenure at GE, Mr. Brook was charged with the oversight and operations of GE's multifamily development joint venture, where he directed the underwriting and approval of over $1.5 billion of projects. His broad institutional background ranges from financial, relationship and product management to risk assessment and managing underwriting teams.

Mr. Brook has expertise in underwriting all major collateral types, restructuring assets, mezzanine financing and negotiation and controllership of equity joint ventures.  He also designed and implemented GE Real Estate's Preferred Equity Program which was created to provide borrowers the ability to finance funding gaps caused by lower valuations and lower leverage amounts.

Dan is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he earned a BA degree in Economics with Distinction.

Bryant Mende - Director

Mr. Bryant Mende is a Director at Summer Street Advisors (SSA), and responsible for client management and operations for SSA’s loan underwriting platform. He brings over 30 years of experience in real estate finance, investment banking and loan production.

Mr. Mende’s background includes extensive experience in both loan underwriting and origination. Prior to joining Summer Street Advisors, he established a loan underwriting/due diligence platform at a boutique special servicing firm and later did a spin-off of that platform to create his own company, Fairview Group, subsequently selling the company. Mr. Mende has originated and underwritten multifamily and all varieties of commercial real estate loans at a number of platforms including Fannie Mae DUS lender, Freddie Mac Seller/Servicer, life insurance, CMBS and bank platforms. He recently managed a direct Freddie Mac underwriting assignment where he and his team underwrote and processed over $1 billion worth of new loan transactions. Most recently, he has managed underwriting projects for both Arbor Financial and KeyBank involving new loan origination underwriting for Fannie Mae DUS and Freddie Mac. He has created and managed both mortgage banking platforms and direct lending origination groups at First Union Bank (predecessor to Wachovia and Wells Fargo) and Bank of America.

He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he earned both his bachelor’s degree and an MBA from the Kenan Flagler School of Business. Mr. Mende is a licensed real estate broker in North Carolina. Outside of the real estate industry, his passion is his involvement in a number of charitable initiatives dealing with homelessness and hunger.

Chris Peters - Director

Chris Peters is an accomplished real estate professional with more than 15 years of direct experience managing and maximizing the value of core, value-add and opportunistic commercial real estate investments. As Head of Portfolio Management for an $8 billion debt & equity portfolio, he has broad expertise in credit underwriting, risk mitigation and asset management of both stabilized and development properties throughout the U.S.

Chris has led the workout, restructuring and liquidation of more than $2 billion of distressed real estate originated by a European bank and managed the value optimization of multiple equity investments held by a prominent private equity fund manager.

Chris holds an MBA from the Cox School at Southern Methodist University with an emphasis on real estate finance and a BA in Economics from the University of Connecticut. He is a licensed real estate agent in Connecticut, has been an elected member of the Darien, CT Board of Assessment Appeals for 10 years and is a former volunteer fireman.

Cynthia Plunkett - Director

Cynthia Plunkett has over fourteen years of experience in commercial real estate underwriting and due diligence. Cynthia began her career at PricewaterhouseCoopers working as a member of a small team specializing in modeling and cash flow due diligence including lease abstracting and expense testing.

At Merrill Lynch Capital, Cynthia was an underwriter for over $500 million in bridge financing transactions for both senior debt and preferred equity. During the recession, Cynthia worked at Mesirow Financial Consulting representing unsecured lenders including a distressed public CDO company which involved the re-undewriting of 80 loans based on current market conditions.

Cynthia is an excellent team player and we are thrilled to have her as part of our SSA team. Her support in full scale underwriting, deal sourcing modeling, conduit desktop underwriting and site inspections is extremely valuable to Summer Street Advisors.

Mrs. Plunkett has Masters of Science in Finance (May 2002) and Bachelor of Business Administration, Accounting (May 2002), GPA: 3.65 (out of 4.0), Cum Laude Honors from Texas A&M University in College Station, TX. She is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Texas, and has completed two of three of the requirements to become a Certified Insolvency & Restructuring Advisor (CIRA).

Charles Mattison - Advisor

Mr. Mattison brings over 20 years of experience as an asset management attorney at TIAA-CREF to Summer Street Advisors. While at TIAA-CREF, Mr. Mattison served as lead counsel to TIAA's structured finance team with expertise in CMBS, RMBS, REITs, and real estate CDOs. He has significant experience in workouts, restructurings and distressed investments.

Mr. Mattison attended Cornell University to secure his JD and Vanderbilt University where he received his BA.

Jay Murray - Analyst

Jay MurrayBefore joining SSA, Jay worked for The Oak Park Group, LLC, a privately held commercial real estate development and consultancy firm, focused primarily on the hospitality sector. Jay was instrumental to The Oak Park Group team for conducting market research to support hospitality acquisitions and development, as well as, analyzing competitive activity helping identify prospective development and investment properties.

Earlier in his career, Jay worked as a Summer Analyst for UBS Financial Services where he efficiently handled client records management, and trade histories.

Jay obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Lynn University in Boca Raton and completed a Post Graduate year at St. Leonards School in St. Andrews, Scotland.

Kathy Petreski - Project Manager                                               

Kathy PetreskiBefore joining Summer Street Advisors, Kathy was a Project Manager for Towers Perrin providing strategic direction and leadership in all aspects of system development. Kathy was in charge of analyzing current processes, procedures, and systems currently in use in all key regional and international offices. She also established a global technology vision and wrote all Requests For Proposal for the design and development of a web-based global compensation database system.

As sole proprietor of S & K Homes, Ltd. for 11 years, Kathy was responsible for all aspects of the construction of new homes. This included scouting vacant land, purchasing and obtaining all necessary permits and approvals, as well as deciding on the architecture, layout and general design of the home and daily on-site management of each project. Kathy was in charge of preparing budgets, bids, scheduling and billing.

Kathy was also a Project Manager for Liz Claiborne, B2 Travel Group and TRECOM Business Systems Inc. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Management from the Gabelli School of Business at Fordham University.
